Notes

machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: We do not know this hadith except from the hadith of Ḥakīm al-Athram, from Abū Tamīmah al-Hujaymī, from Abū Hurayrah. Its meaning, according to the people of knowledge, is by way of stern warning (taghlīẓ). It has been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: "Whoever has intercourse with a menstruating woman, let him give a dinar in charity." Had having intercourse with a menstruating woman been disbelief, he would not have been commanded to give an expiation for it. Muḥammad declared this hadith weak (ḍaʿīf) because of its chain of transmission. Abū Tamīmah al-Hujaymī's name is Ṭarīf b. Mujālid.
