حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ وَأَبُو عَوَانَةَ وَقَيْسٌ وَشَيْبَانُ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ - ﷺ

كَانَ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ قَدَمَاهُ، قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لَهُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَتَصْنَعُ هَذَا وَقَدْ غُفِرَ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

Translation

✧ He used to pray until his feet became swollen. He said: It was said to him: O Messenger of God, do you do this when your past and future sins have been forgiven? The Messenger of God ﷺ said: Should I not be a grateful servant?
