✧ I fell severely ill and was on the verge of death. The Messenger of God ﷺ came in to see me, and I said, “O Messenger of God, will I be left behind without my emigration?” He said, “You will not be left behind after me such that you do any deed seeking the face of God except that you will increase in rank and degree by it. Perhaps you will be left behind until some people benefit through you and others are harmed through you. O God, complete the emigration of my companions and do not turn them back on their heels. But the wretched one is Saʿd b. Khawlah.” The Messenger of God ﷺ was lamenting for him because he died in Makkah.

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it, and it is sound (ṣaḥīḥ) from him. Saʿd b. Ibrāhīm also narrated it, and there is disagreement about him concerning it: al-Thawrī narrated it from Saʿd, from ʿĀmir b. Saʿd, from his father; and Misʿar said, from Saʿd: "Some of the family of Saʿd narrated to me, from Saʿd." And it is sound (ṣaḥīḥ) from ʿĀmir b. Saʿd, from his father, through the narration of al-Zuhrī and through the narration of Saʿd b. Ibrāhīm.
