حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسٌ، عَنِ الْأَجْلَحِ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خَلِيلٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ

أَنَّهُ أُتِيَ فِي ثَلَاثَةٍ اشْتَرَكُوا فِي طُهْرِ امْرَأَةٍ، فَأَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَقَالَ: " أَنْتُمْ شُرَكَاءُ مُتَشَاكِسُونَ، فَجَعَلَ الْوَلَدَ لِلَّذِي أَقْرَعَ، وَجَعَلَ لَهُمَا ثُلُثَيِ الدِّيَةِ، فَأَخْبَرَ بِذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَضَحِكَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ

Translation

✧ Three men came to him who had shared in the purity of a woman, and he cast lots among them and said: “You are quarrelsome partners.” He assigned the child to the one who won the lot and made the other two liable for two-thirds of the blood-money. He told the Prophet ﷺ about that, and he laughed until his molars showed.
