حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ:
أَتَيْتُ عَلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: وَيَقُولُ ابْنُ آدَمَ مَالِي مَالِي، وَهَلْ لَكَ مِنْ مَالِكَ ابْنَ آدَمَ إِلَّا مَا أَكَلْتَ فَأَفْنَيْتَ أَوْ لَبِسْتَ فَأَبْلَيْتَ أَوْ تَصَدَّقْتَ فَأَمْضَيْتَ.

✧ I came upon the Prophet of God ﷺ while he was reciting 'The mutual rivalry for piling up diverts you,' and he was saying: 'The son of Adam says, "My wealth, my wealth," but what do you have of your wealth, son of Adam, except what you eat and consume, or wear and wear out, or give in charity and send forth?'
