✧ I witnessed 'Amr b. al-'As when Muhammad b. Abi Bakr was brought to him—he had been governor over Egypt—and he was bound. 'Amr said to him: 'Do you have a guarantee of safety? Has anyone given you protection?' He did not mention that he had any guarantee. 'Amr said: 'I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: The humblest of the Muslims may grant protection on behalf of the Muslims.' He said: Then his neck was struck.
