When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Mecca, two men from my in-laws fled to me and I gave them protection, or a word resembling it. Then my brother ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib came in to me and said: "I will surely kill them." She said [1]: So I locked the door on them, then I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the upper part of Mecca. He said: "Welcome, and greetings to Umm Hāniʾ! What brings you?" She said: I said: "O Prophet of Allah! Two men from my in-laws fled to me, and my brother ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib came in to me and claimed that he would kill them!" He said: "No. We have given protection to whomever you have protected, and we have granted safety to whomever you have granted safety."
