حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَبَايَةَ، عَنْ رَافِعٍ، قَالَ:
قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا لَاقُو الْعَدُوِّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مُدًى، أَفَنَذْبَحُ بِالْقَصَبِ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللهِ فَكُلْ، مَا خَلَا السِّنَّ وَالظُّفُرَ، وَسَأُخْبِرُكَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ؛ أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ، وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ
Translation

✧ We said: "O Messenger of God, we will meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives. Can we slaughter with reeds?" The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Whatever lets the blood flow and the name of God is mentioned, then eat, except for the tooth and the nail. I will tell you about that: as for the tooth, it is bone, and as for the nail, it is the knife of the Abyssinians."
