حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ وَبَيَانٍ أَوْ أَحَدِهِمَا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الشَّعْبِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ قَالَ
عَبْدُ اللهِ إِنَّ مُعَاذًا كَانَ أُمَّةً قَانِتًا فَقَالَ فَرْوَةُ غَلَطٌ {إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً قَانِتًا} فَقَالَ إِنَّا كُنَّا نُشَبِّهُ بِهِ وَسُئِلَ عَنِ الْأُمَّةِ فَقَالَ مُعَلِّمُ الْخَيْرِ وَسُئِلَ عَنِ الْقَانِتِ فَقَالَ مُطِيعٌ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ

✧ ʿAbdullah said: Indeed Muʿadh was a nation, devoutly obedient. Farwah said: It is a mistake; {Indeed Ibrahim was a nation, devoutly obedient.} He said: We used to liken him to him. He was asked about the nation and said: A teacher of good. And he was asked about the devoutly obedient and said: Obedient to Allah and His Messenger.
