حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ أنا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ
كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ نُسَبِّحُ وَنُكَبِّرُ وَنَحْمَدُ رَبَّنَا وَإِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ عَلِمَ فَوَاتِحَ الْخَيْرِ وَخَوَاتِمَهُ أَوَقَالَ جَوَامِعَهُ وَإِنَّهُ قَالَ لَنَا إِذَا قَعَدْتُمْ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ لِيَتَخَيَّرْ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ أَعْجَبَهُ إِلَيْهِ فَلْيَدْعُ بِهِ

✧ We did not know what to say in every rak'ah; we glorified, magnified, and praised our Lord. Muhammad ﷺ was given the openings of good and its endings—or he said: its comprehensive words. He said to us: 'When you sit after every two rak'ahs, say: All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. Then let him choose of supplication what pleases him most and supplicate with it.'"
