حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّخَعِيُّ ثنا أَبُو عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي صَاحِبُ هَذِهِ الدَّارِ يَعْنِي عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ «الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى مِيقَاتِهَا» قُلْتُ ثُمَّ مَاذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «بِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ» قُلْتُ ثُمَّ مَاذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «أَنْ يَسْلَمَ النَّاسُ مِنْ لِسَانِكَ» ثُمَّ سَكَتَ وَلَوِ اسْتَزَدْتُهُ لَزَادَنِي

✧ I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying: O Messenger of Allah, which deeds are most virtuous? He said: "Prayer at its appointed time." I said: Then what, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "Kindness to parents." I said: Then what, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "That people are safe from your tongue." Then he fell silent, and if I had asked for more, he would have added.
