حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ عَنْ هِشَامٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ أَبُو عَطِيَّةَ ذَكَرُوهَا عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ فَقَالَ «§أَجَلُهَا أَنْ تَضَعَ حَمْلَهَا» فَقَالَ الْقَوْمُ حَتَّى أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرٍ؟ فَقَالَ
عَبْدُ اللهِ أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ مَضَتْ أَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرٌ وَلَمْ تَضَعْ حَمْلَهَا؟ فَقَالُوا حَتَّى تَضَعَ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَتَجْعَلُونَ عَلَيْهَا التَّغْلِيظَ وَلَا تَجْعَلُونَ لَهَا الرُّخْصَةَ إِنْ نَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْقُصْرَى لَبَعْدَ الطُّولَى {وَأُولَاتُ الْأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ} إِذَا وَضَعَتْ حَمْلَهَا فَقَدِ انْقَضَتِ الْعِدَّةُ

✧ ʿAbd Allāh said: Do you think that if four months and ten days pass and she has not delivered her burden? They said: Until she delivers. Then ʿAbd Allāh said: So you impose hardship on her and do not give her the concession. The verse of the shorter sūrah was revealed after the longer one: {And for those who are pregnant, their term is that they deliver their burden}. When she delivers her burden, the waiting period has ended.
