حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ وَعَارِمٌ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ قَالَا ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ زِرٍّ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ أَبَا الْمُنْذِرِ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ فَإِنَّ صَاحِبَنَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ سُئِلَ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ مَنْ يُقِمِ الْحَوْلَ يُصِبْهَا قَالَ
«رَحِمَ اللهُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَمَا وَاللهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ أَنَّهَا فِي رَمَضَانَ وَلَكِنَّهُ كَرِهَ أَنْ يَتَّكِلُوا أَوْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ لَا يَتَّكِلُوا وَاللهِ إِنَّهَا لَفِي رَمَضَانَ وَإِنَّهَا لَيْلَةُ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ يَحْلِفُ وَلَا يَسْتَثْنِي» قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا أَبَا الْمُنْذِرِ أَنَّى عَلِمْتَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ «بِالْآيَةِ الَّتِي أَخْبَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ» قَالَ حَمَّادٌ فَقُلْتُ لِعَاصِمٍ مَا الْآيَةُ؟ قَالَ «تُصْبِحُ الشَّمْسُ صَبِيحَةَ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةِ لَيْسَ لَهَا شُعَاعُ مِثْلَ الطَّسْتِ حَتَّى تَرْتَفِعَ»

✧ May Allah have mercy on Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. By Allah, he knew that it is in Ramadan, but he disliked that they should rely on it, or he loved that they should not rely on it. By Allah, it is indeed in Ramadan, and it is the twenty-seventh night—he swore without making an exception. He said: I said: O Abū al-Mundhir, how did you know that? He said: By the sign that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us. Ḥammād said: I said to ʿĀṣim: What is the sign? He said: The sun rises on the morning after that night without rays, like a basin, until it rises high.
