حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ أنا عُتْبَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
أَتَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فَقُلْتُ صَامَ نَاسٌ مِنَ الْحَيِّ وَنَاسٌ مِنْ جِيرَانِنَا الْيَوْمَ قَالَ «عَنْ رُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «لَأَنْ أُفْطِرَ يَوْمًا مِنْ رَمَضَانَ ثُمَّ أَقْضِيَهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَصُومَ يَوْمًا مِنْ شَعْبَانَ»

✧ I came to Abdullah bin Masood and said, "Some people in the neighborhood and some of our neighbors are fasting today." He asked, "Did they see the crescent?" I said, "No." He said, "Because it is more beloved to me to break my fast for a day in Ramadan and then make it up, than to fast for a day in Sha'ban."
