حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا مَسْرُوقُ بْنُ الْمَرْزُبَانِ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ عَنْ كُرْدُوسٍ قَالَ أَرْسَلَ الْوَلِيدُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَحُذَيْفَةَ وَأَبِي مَسْعُودٍ وَأَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ بَعْدَ الْعَتَمَةِ فَقَالَ
إِنَّ هَذَا عِيدُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَكَيْفَ الصَّلَاةُ؟ فَقَالُوا سَلْ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ «يَقُومُ فَيُكَبِّرُ أَرْبَعًا ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ ثُمَّ يُكَبِّرُ وَيَرْكَعُ فَتِلْكَ خَمْسٌ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيَقْرَأُ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ ثُمَّ يُكَبِّرُ أَرْبَعًا يَرْكَعُ فِي آخِرِهِنَّ فَتِلْكَ تِسْعٌ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ» فَمَا أَنْكَرَهُ وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمْ

✧ This is the festival of the Muslims, so how is the prayer? They said: Ask Abu ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. So he asked him, and he said: «He stands and says takbīr four times, then recites the Fātiḥah of the Book and a sūrah from the mufaṣṣal, then says takbīr and bows; that makes five. Then he stands and recites the Fātiḥah of the Book and a sūrah from the mufaṣṣal, then says takbīr four times and bows at the last of them; that makes nine in the two festival prayers.» None of them objected to that.
