حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ
دَخَلَ عَلْقَمَةُ وَالْأَسْوَدُ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ فَقَالَا إِنَّ أُمَّ الْأَسْوَدِ أُقْعِدَتْ وَإِنَّهُ يَرْكُزُ لَهَا عُودَ الْمِرْوَحَةِ تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ فَمَا تَرَى؟ قَالَ «إِنِّي لَأَرَى الشَّيْطَانَ يَعْرِضُ بِالْعُودِ لِتَسْجُدْ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ إِنِ اسْتَطَاعَتْ وَإِلَّا تُومِئْ إِيمَاءً»

✧ ʿAlqama and al-Aswad entered upon ʿAbd Allah and said, “Al-Aswad’s mother has been bedridden, and he props up a palm-frond fan stick for her to pray on. What do you think?” He said, “I think Satan presents the stick to her; she should prostrate on the ground if she can, and if not, she should gesture.”
