حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ السَّلَامِ بْنُ حَرْبٍ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ
جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ مُتَحَنِّطًا فَلَمَّا رَآهُ وَوَجَدَ رِيحَ الْحَنُوطِ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ» قَالَ فَجَاءَهُ فَذَكَرَ لَهُ أَنَّهُ وَقَعَ عَلَى جَارِيَةِ امْرَأَتِهِ فَأَقِمْ عَلِيَّ الْحَدَّ قَالَ «اسْتَغْفِرِ اللهَ وَتُبْ إِلَيْهِ وَاسْتُرْ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ وَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَعْتِقَهَا فَأَعْتِقْهَا»

✧ A man came to ʿAbd Allāh perfumed with ḥanūṭ. When he saw him and detected the scent of the perfume, he said: “O God, I seek refuge in You from his evil.” He said: Then he came to him and mentioned to him that he had had intercourse with his wife’s slave-girl. He said: “Apply the legal punishment to me.” He said: “Ask God’s forgiveness and repent to Him, and conceal it upon yourself; and if you are able to free her, then free her.”
