حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ سَأَلْنَا عَبْدَ اللهِ
عَنْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ {وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ} إِلَى {يُرْزَقُونَ} قَالَ «أَرْوَاحُ الشُّهَدَاءِ عِنْدَ اللهِ ﷻ كَطَيْرٍ خُضْرٍ لَهَا قَنَادِيلُ مُعَلَّقَةٌ بِالْعَرْشِ تَسْرَحُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ حَيْثُ شَاءَتْ» قَالَ فَاطَّلَعَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ اطِّلَاعَةً فَقَالَ هَلْ تَشْتَهُونَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَأَزِيدُكُمُوهُ؟ قَالُوا رَبَّنَا أَلَسْنَا نَسْرَحُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ فِي أَيِّهَا حَيْثُ شِئْنَا؟ قَالَ ثُمَّ اطَّلَعَ عَلَيْهِمُ الثَّانِيَةَ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَشْتَهُونَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَأَزِيدُكُمُوهُ؟ قَالُوا رَبَّنَا أَلَسْنَا نَسْرَحُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ فِي أَيِّهَا حَيْثُ شِئْنَا؟ ثُمَّ اطَّلَعَ إِلَيْهِمُ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَشْتَهُونَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَأَزِيدُكُمُوهُ؟ قَالُوا تُعِيدُ أَرْوَاحَنَا فِي أَجْسَادِنَا فَنُقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِكَ فَنُقْتَلْ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى قَالَ «فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُمْ»

✧ About this verse: {And do not think those who have been killed in the way of Allah} up to {they are provided for}, he said: "The souls of the martyrs are with Allah ﷻ like green birds with lanterns hanging from the Throne, roaming in Paradise wherever they wish." He said: Then your Lord looked over them and asked: "Do you desire anything that I might increase you?" They said: "Our Lord, are we not roaming in Paradise wherever we wish?" He said: Then He looked over them a second time and asked: "Do you desire anything that I might increase you?" They said: "Our Lord, are we not roaming in Paradise wherever we wish?" Then He looked over them a third time and asked: "Do you desire anything that I might increase you?" They said: "Restore our souls to our bodies so that we may fight in Your way and be killed once again." He said: "So He fell silent regarding them."
