✧ There was an argument between a man from among the companions of ʿAbd Allāh and his wife. She said: Your food and the food of your family is nothing but from the milk of my ewe. So he swore that he would not eat anything from its milk. Then a guest came to them, and she prepared food for him with the milk of her ewe. The man said: You know that I do not eat it. The woman said: By God, if you do not eat, I will not eat. The guest said: By God, if you two do not eat, I will not eat. So they spent the night without dinner. The talk reached ʿAbd Allāh, and the man came to ʿAbd Allāh. ʿAbd Allāh said to him: “What came between you and your family?” He said: There was no divorce, no ẓihār, and no īlāʾ. Then he told him the story. ʿAbd Allāh said to him: “I adjure you, when you return to your family, that the first thing you do is eat from the milk of this ewe. And I think it would be better for yourself to expiate for your oath.”
