حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ الْقَاضِي ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ أَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَسْعَدَ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمِّي

أَنَّ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ أَصَابَهُ وَجَعٌ يُسَمِّيهِ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ الذُّبْحَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَأُبْلِيَنَّ أَوْ لَأَبْلُغَنَّ فِي أَبِي أُمَامَةَ عُذْرًا» قَالَ فَكَوَاهُ بِيَدِهِ فَمَاتَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنِيَّةُ سُوءٍ لِلْيَهُودِ تَقُولُ أَلَا رُفِعَ عَنْ صَاحِبِهِ وَمَا أَمْلِكُ لَهُ وَلَا لِنَفْسِي مِنَ اللهِ شَيْئًا

✧ Abu Umamah was afflicted with a pain that the people of Madinah call quinsy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I shall strive or excuse myself concerning Abu Umamah." He said, "So he cauterized him with his own hand, and he died. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'An evil death for the Jews. They will say: Why did he not protect his companion? I possess no power for him or for myself from Allah.'"
