حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ قَالَ قَالَ
عَبْدُ اللهِ «لَا تَعْجَلُوا بِحَمْدِ النَّاسِ وَلَا بِذَمِّهِمْ فَإِنَّكَ أَوْ لَعَلَّكَ أَنْ تَرَى مِنْ أَخِيكَ الْيَوْمَ شَيْئًا يُعْجِبُكَ لَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَسُوءَكَ غَدًا وَلَعَلَّكَ أَنْ تَرَى مِنْهُ الْيَوْمَ شَيْئًا يَسُوءُكَ لَعَلَّهُ يُعْجِبُكَ غَدًا وَإِنَّ النَّاسَ يُعَيِّرُونَ وَإِنَّمَا يَغْفِرُ اللهُ الذُّنُوبَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَاللهُ أَرْحَمُ بِعَبْدِهِ يَوْمَ يَلْقَاهُ مِنْ أُمِّ وَاحِدٍ فَرَشَتْ لَهُ بِأَرْضٍ فِي ثُمَّ لَمَسَتْهُ فَإِنْ كَانَتْ شَوْكَةٌ كَانَتْ بِهَا قَبْلَهُ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ لَدْغَةٌ كَانَتْ بِهَا قَبْلَهُ»

✧ ʿAbd Allah: Do not hasten to praise people or to blame them. For perhaps you see something from your brother today that pleases you, and perhaps it will displease you tomorrow. And perhaps you see something from him today that displeases you, and perhaps it will please you tomorrow. People find fault, but Allah alone forgives sins on the Day of Resurrection. Allah is more merciful to His servant on the day he meets Him than a mother who spread out for him on the ground, then touched him: if there was a thorn, she would be struck by it before him; and if there was a sting, she would be struck by it before him.
