حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ عَوْنٍ قَالَ
لَمَّا أَتَتْ عَبْدَ اللهِ وَفَاةُ عُتْبَةَ بَكَى فَقِيلَ لَهُ تَبْكِي؟ قَالَ «كَانَ أَخِي فِي النَّسَبِ وَصَاحِبِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَا أُحِبُّ مَعَ ذَلِكَ أَنِّي كُنْتُ قَبْلَهُ لِأَنْ يَمُوتَ فَأَحْتَسِبَهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَمُوتَ فَيَحْتَسِبَنِي»

✧ When Uqbah's death came to Abdullah, he wept. It was said to him: 'You weep?' He said: 'He was my brother in lineage and my companion with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Along with that, I would not love that I was before him — that he die and I seek reward for him is dearer to me than that I die and he seek reward for me.'
