حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

«أَنْتُمْ أَكْثَرُ صَلَاةً وَأَكْثَرُ جِهَادًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ وَهُمْ كَانُوا خَيْرًا مِنْكُمْ» قَالُوا بِمَ ذَاكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا أَزْهَدَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَأَرْغَبَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ»

✧ “You pray more and strive more than the Companions of Muḥammad ﷺ, yet they were better than you.” They said, “Why is that, O Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān?” He said, “Because they were more abstinent from this world and more desirous of the Hereafter.”
