حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ

يُؤْتَى الرَّجُلُ فِي قَبْرِهِ فَيُؤْتَى رِجْلَاهُ فَيَقُولَانِ لَيْسَ لَكُمْ عَلَى مَا قِبَلَنَا مِنْ سَبِيلٍ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْنَا سُورَةَ الْمُلْكِ ثُمَّ يُؤْتَى جَوْفُهُ فَيَقُولُ لَيْسَ لَكُمْ عَلَيَّ سَبِيلٌ قَدْ كَانَ وَعَى فِيَّ سُورَةَ الْمُلْكِ ثُمَّ يُؤْتَى مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فَيَقُولُ لَيْسَ لَكُمْ عَلَى مَا قِبَلِي سَبِيلٌ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِيَّ سُورَةَ الْمُلْكِ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ «فَهِيَ الْمَانِعَةُ تَمْنَعُ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ وَهِي فِي التَّوْرَاةِ هَذِهِ سُورَةُ الْمُلْكِ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا فِي لَيْلَةٍ أَكْثَرَ وَأَطْيَبَ»

✧ A man is approached in his grave. His feet are approached, and they say: "You have no way over what is before us; he used to recite Surat al-Mulk upon us." Then his torso is approached, and it says: "You have no way over me; he had contained Surat al-Mulk within me." Then he is approached from his head, and it says: "You have no way over what is before me; he used to recite Surat al-Mulk within me." Abdullah said: "It is the preventer, preventing the punishment of the grave. And in the Torah it is: Surat al-Mulk—whoever recites it in a night has done much and good."
