حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ قَالَ

عَبْدُ اللهِ «إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَخْرُجُ وَمَعَهُ دِينُهُ فَيَرْجِعُ وَمَا مَعَهُ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ يَأْتِي الرَّجُلَ لَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُ وَلَا لِنَفْسِهِ نَفْعًا وَلَا ضَرًّا فَيُقْسِمُ لَهُ بِاللهِ إِنَّكَ كَذَبْتَ وَأَذْنَبْتَ فَيَرْجِعُ مَا حُلِّيَ مِنْ حَاجَتِهِ بِشَيْءٍ وَقَدْ أَسْخَطَ اللهَ عَلَيْهِ»

✧ ʿAbd Allah said: "A man may go out with his religion and return with nothing of it. He comes to a man who possesses no benefit or harm for him or for himself, and swears to him by Allah, 'You have lied and committed sin,' and then he returns without having obtained anything of his need, and he has made Allah angry with him."
