حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ وَعُمْرَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
دَخَلَتِ امْرَأَةُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ اسْمُهَا خَوْلَةُ بِنْتُ حَكِيمٍ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ وَهِي بَاذَّةُ الْهَيْئَةِ فَسَأَلَتْهَا مَا شَأْنُكِ؟ قَالَتْ زَوْجِي يَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ وَيَصُومُ النَّهَارَ فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُ عَائِشَةُ فَلَقِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عُثْمَانَ فَقَالَ «يَا عُثْمَانُ إِنَّ الرَّهْبَانِيَّةَ لَمْ تُكْتَبْ عَلَيْنَا أَمَا لَكَ فِيَّ أُسْوَةٌ فَوَاللهِ إِنَّ أَخْشَاكُمْ لِلَّهِ وَأَحْفَظَكُمْ لِحُدُودِهِ لَأَنَا»

✧ The wife of Uthman b. Maz'un, whose name was Khawla bt. Hakim, entered upon A'isha looking disheveled in appearance. She asked her, "What is the matter with you?" She said, "My husband stands in prayer at night and fasts during the day." Then the Prophet ﷺ entered, and A'isha mentioned that to him. The Prophet ﷺ met Uthman and said, "O Uthman, monasticism was not prescribed for us. Do I not serve as an example for you? By God, the most fearful of you of God and the most careful of you regarding His limits is me."
