حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ قَالَا ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ لَمَّا مَاتَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ

قَالَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ هَنِيئًا لَكَ الْجَنَّةُ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ نَظْرَةَ غَضْبَانٍ فَقَالَ «وَمَا يُدْرِيكِ؟» فَقَالَتْ فَارِسُكَ وَصَاحِبُكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ ﷺ «وَاللهِ مَا أَدْرِي مَا يُفْعَلُ بِي» فَاشْتَدَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ لِعُثْمَانَ وَهُوَ مِنْ أَفْضَلِهِمْ فَلَمَّا مَاتَتْ رُقَيَّةُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «الْحَقِي بِسَلَفِنَا عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ»

✧ His wife said: “Congratulations on Paradise to you.” The Prophet ﷺ looked at her with an angry look and said: “What do you know?” She said: “Your horseman and your companion.” The Messenger ﷺ said: “By God, I do not know what will be done with me.” That weighed heavily on the companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ because of his statement about Uthman, who was among the best of them. When Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of God ﷺ, died, he said: “Join our predecessor Uthman b. Maz'un.”
