✧ I was in the market of Dhu al-Majaz when a young man passed by wearing a red striped cloak, saying, "O people, say: There is no god but God, and you will prosper." A man behind him was pelting him, having bloodied his heels and legs, saying, "O people, he is a liar, so do not obey him." I asked, "Who is this?" They said, "This is the youth of Banu Hashim who claims that he is the Messenger of God ﷺ, and this is his uncle Abd al-Uzza." When Muhammad ﷺ emigrated to Madinah and the people embraced Islam, we departed from al-Rabadhah that day with a woman of ours in a howdah. When we came to Madinah and approached its walls, we put on clothes other than our own, and there was a man in the road. He said, "From where are the people coming?" We said, "We are bringing provisions for our families from its dates. We have a red camel standing, tied with a nose rope." He said, "Will you sell me your camel?" We said, "Yes." He said, "For how much?" We said, "For such and such saa of dates." He did not reduce anything from what we said, and he struck with his hand and took the camel's nose rope, then turned away with it. When he disappeared from us behind the walls, we said, "By God, we have done nothing; we have traded with someone we do not know." A woman sitting said, "I have seen a man whose face was like the full moon on the night of al-Badr. By God, he will not wrong you nor deceive you; I guarantee your camel." Then a man came and said, "I am the messenger of the Messenger of God ﷺ to you. This is your dates, so eat and be satisfied and measure out." He said, "We ate and were satisfied and measured out and received in full." Then we entered Madinah and came to the mosque, and there he was, delivering a sermon on the pulpit. We heard from his speech: "Give charity, for charity is better for you. The upper hand is better than the lower hand. Begin with those you support: your father, your mother, your sister, your brother, and then those nearest to you, then those nearest to you." A man from the Ansar stood and said, "O Messenger of God, these are Banu Yarbu; they killed a man of ours in the pre-Islamic era, so aid us against them." He said, "The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Indeed, a father does not bear the crime of his child. Indeed, a father does not bear the crime of his child. Indeed, a father does not bear the crime of his child.'" three times.
