حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْعَطَّارُ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ ثنا أَبُو غَالِبٍ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَقُولُ «إِذَا وَضَعْتَ الطُّهُورَ مَوَاضِعَهُ قَعَدْتَ مَغْفُورًا لَكَ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تُصَلِّي كَانَتْ لَكَ فَضِيلَةً وَأَجْرًا وَإِنْ قَعَدْتَ قَعَدْتَ مَغْفُورًا لَكَ» فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قَامَ فَصَلَّى يَكُونُ لَهُ نَافِلَةً وَهُوَ يَشْقَى فِي الذُّنُوبِ وَالْخَطَايَا؟ «يَكُونُ لَكَ فَضِيلَةً وَأَجْرًا»

✧ I heard Abū Umāmah say: “When you put the purification water in its proper places, you sit down already forgiven. If you pray, you have a virtue and a reward, and if you sit, you sit forgiven.” A man said to him: “O Abū Umāmah, do you think that if he stands and prays, it is supererogatory for him while he is toiling in sins and errors?” He said: “You have a virtue and a reward.”
