حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ ثنا أَبُو غَالِبٍ قَالَ
رَأَيْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيَّ أَبْصَرَ رُءُوسَ الْخَوَارِجِ عَلَى دَرَجِ دِمَشْقَ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «كِلَابُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ كِلَابُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ كِلَابُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ» ثُمَّ بَكَى وَقَالَ «شَرُّ قَتْلَى تَحْتَ أَدِيمِ السَّمَاءِ وَخَيْرُ قَتْلَى مَنْ قَتَلُوهُ» قَالَ أَبُو غَالِبٍ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي إِذًا لَجَرِيءٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ وَلَا مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَا ثَلَاثٍ

✧ I saw Abu Umamah al-Bāhilī when he saw the heads of the Khawarij on the steps of Damascus and said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “Dogs of the people of the Fire, dogs of the people of the Fire, dogs of the people of the Fire.” Then he wept and said: “The worst of those slain under the canopy of the sky, and the best of those slain are those whom they killed.” Abu Ghalib said: I said to him: “Did you hear this from the Messenger of God ﷺ?” He said: “Then I would be very bold. I heard it from the Messenger of God ﷺ not once, nor twice, nor three times.”
