حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أنا قَزَعَةُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَكَمِ بْنِ فَضَالَةَ قَالَ

دَخَلْتُ مَسْجِدَ حِمْصٍ فَإِذَا فِيهِ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ يَتَفَلَّى فِيهِ وَيَدْفِنُ الْقَمْلَ فِيهِ فَجَلَسْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَسَبَّحَ ثَلَاثًا وَكَبَّرَ ثَلَاثًا وَحَمِدَ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ قَالَ خَفِيفَاتٌ عَلَى اللِّسَانِ ثَقِيلَاتٌ فِي الْمِيزَانِ تَصْعَدْنَ إِلَى الرَّحْمَنِ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ أَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ وَإِنَّ الْمُصَّدِّقِينَ كَانُوا يَتَعَدَّوْنَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ الصَّدَقَةُ حَقٌّ وَتباعها فِي النَّارِ قَوْلُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ «قَصَّرَ أَوْ تَعَدَّى جِيئُوا بِالْمَالِ وَافِدًا وَلَا تُغَيِّبُوا مِنْهَا فَتَخْبِثُوا مَا غَيَّبْتُمْ وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمْ فَلَا تَسُبُّوهُمْ وَاسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللهِ مِنْ شَرِّهِمْ»

✧ I entered the mosque of Hims, and there was Abu Umama delousing himself in it and burying the lice in it. I sat with him, and he glorified God three times, said God is greater three times, and praised God three times. Then he said: “They are light on the tongue, heavy in the balance, and they ascend to the Most Merciful.” I said: “O Abu Umama, I am from the desert people, and the alms collectors used to transgress against us.” He said: “Alms are a right, and its collectors are in the Fire. The saying of the Messenger of God ﷺ: ‘Whether he falls short or transgresses, bring the wealth as a delegation and do not hide any of it, lest you corrupt what you hide. When you see them, do not revile them, but seek refuge in God from their evil.’”
