حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثنا أَبُو زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي الْغِمْرِ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ قَالَ
قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي النَّاسِ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ كَتَبَ عَلَيْكُمِ الْحَجَّ» فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ فَقَالَ أَفِي كُلِّ عَامٍ؟ فَغَلِقَ كَلَامُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَغَضِبَ وَمَكَثَ طَوِيلًا ثُمَّ تَكَلَّمَ فَقَالَ «مَنْ هَذَا السَّائِلُ؟» فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ أَنَا ذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ وَيْحَكَ مَاذَا يُؤْمِنُكَ أَنْ أَقُولَ نَعَمْ وَاللهِ لَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ وَلَوْ وَجَبَتْ لَتَرَكْتُمْ وَلَوْ تَرَكْتُمْ لَكَفَرْتُمْ أَلَا إِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أَهْلَكَ الَّذِينَ قَبْلَكُمْ أَئِمَّةُ الْحَرَجِ وَاللهِ لَوْ أَنِّي أَحْلَلْتُ لَكُمْ جَمِيعَ مَا فِي الْأَرْضِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ وَحَرَّمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِثْلَ خُفِّ بَعِيرٍ لَوَقَعْتُمْ فِيهِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى {لَا تَسْأَلُوا عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ} الْآيَةَ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among the people and said: "Allah has prescribed the Hajj upon you." A man from the Bedouins stood up and said: "Every year?" The speech of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became difficult, and he became angry and remained silent for a long time. Then he spoke and said: "Who is this questioner?" The Bedouin said: "I am here, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Woe to you! What makes you feel safe that I should say yes? By Allah, if I said yes, it would become obligatory, and if it became obligatory, you would abandon it, and if you abandoned it, you would disbelieve. Indeed, it was only the leaders of hardship who destroyed those before you. By Allah, if I made lawful for you everything on earth and forbade for you the like of a camel's hoof, you would fall into it." Then Allah, exalted is He, revealed: {Do not ask about things} [Qur'an 5:101], the verse.
