✧ Translation: "Asad b. Wada'ah, from Abu Umamah Sudi b. 'Ajlan, from the Prophet, ﷺ .

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارِ بْنِ الرَّيَّانِ ثنا عَنْبَسَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ ح وحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا قُرَادُ أَبُو نُوحٍ ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ شَدَّادٍ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنْ تَبْذُلَ الْفَضْلَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَإِنْ تُمْسِكْهُ شَرٌّ لَكَ وَلَا يُلَامُ عَلَى الْكَفَافِ وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى»

✧ I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say, “If you give away surplus wealth, it is better for you; if you withhold it, it is bad for you. You will not be blamed for keeping what is sufficient. Begin with those you support. The upper hand is better than the lower hand.”
