حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَمْزَةَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ ثنا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ أَبِي وَهْبٍ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ النَّاسَ شَجَرَةٌ ذَاتُ جَنى وَيُوشِكُ أَنْ تَعُودُوا شَجَرَةً ذَاتَ شَوْكٍ إِنْ نَاقَدْتَهُمْ نَاقَدُوكَ وَإِنْ تَرَكْتَهُمْ لَمْ يَتْرُكُوكَ وَإِنْ هَرَبْتَ مِنْهُمْ طَلَبُوكَ» قَالَ فَكَيْفَ الْمَخْرَجُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «تُقْرِضُهُمْ مِنْ عِرْضِكَ لِيَوْمِ فَاقَتِكَ»

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "People are a tree bearing fruit; soon they will become a tree bearing thorns. If you deal strictly with them, they will deal strictly with you; if you leave them, they will not leave you; and if you flee from them, they will seek you." He said: "Then what is the way out of that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "You lend them from your honor for the day of your need."
