حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ ثنا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ قَالَا ثنا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ ثنا رَجَاءُ بْنُ حَيْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ

أَنْشَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَزْوَةً فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ادْعُ اللهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ» فَغَزَوْنَا فَسَلِمْنَا ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَزْوًا آخَرَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ادْعُ اللهَ لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ» فَغَزَوْنَا فَسَلِمْنَا وَغَنِمْنَا ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَزْوًا ثَالِثًا فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَتَيْتُكَ مَرَّتَيْنِ تَدْعُو لِي بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَقُلْتَ «اللهُمَّ سَلِّمْهُمْ وَغَنِّمْهُمْ» فَغَزَوْنَا فَسَلِمْنَا وَغَنِمْنَا

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prepared a military expedition, so I came to him and said, “O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah for martyrdom for me.” He said, “O Allah, grant them safety and grant them spoils.” So we went on the expedition and remained safe. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prepared another expedition, and I said, “O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah for martyrdom for me.” He said, “O Allah, grant them safety and grant them spoils.” So we went on the expedition and remained safe and obtained spoils. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prepared a third expedition, and I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I came to you twice asking you to pray for martyrdom for me, and you said, ‘O Allah, grant them safety and grant them spoils,’ so we went on the expedition and remained safe and obtained spoils.”
