حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ثنا عَمِّي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ ابْنُ أَخِي الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ كَانَ يَقُولُ

سَمِعْتُ الصَّعْبَ بْنَ جَثَّامَةَ يَقُولُ أَهْدَيْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ بِالْأَبْوَاءِ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيَّ فَلَمَّا عَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي وَجْهِي كَرَاهِيَةَ رَدِّهِ قَالَ «إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ»

✧ I heard al-Ṣaʿb b. Jaththāmah say: I gifted a wild donkey to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at al-Abwāʾ, and he returned it to me. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recognized in my face the dislike of his returning it, he said: "It is not that we reject it against you, but we are in the state of iḥrām."
