حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحِنَّائِيُّ ثنا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ صَفْوَانَ بْنَ عَسَّالٍ الْمُرَادِيَّ فَقَالَ

مَا جَاءَ بِكَ؟ قُلْتُ جِئْتُ فِي طَلَبِ الْعِلْمِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَتَحَدَّثُ أَنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَضَعُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا لِطَالِبِ الْعِلْمِ رِضًى بِمَا يَطْلُبُ ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ قَالَ «كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ سَفَرًا وَكُنَّا نَمْسَحُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهُنَّ وَالْمُقِيمُ يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ»

✧ What has brought you? I said: I have come seeking knowledge. He said: We used to say that the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge, pleased with what he seeks. Then I asked him about wiping over the leather socks. He said: "We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ on a journey, and we used to wipe for three days and their nights, and the resident for a day and a night."
