حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ عَنْ مِسْعَرِ بْنِ كِدَامٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ صَفْوَانَ بْنَ عَسَّالٍ فَقَالَ لِي مَا جَاءَ بِكَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَطْلُبُ الْعِلْمَ قَالَ
مَا خَرَجَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ يَلْتَمِسُ عِلْمًا إِلَّا وَضَعَتْ لَهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا رِضًى بِمَا يَفْعَلُ قُلْتُ لَهُ كُنْتَ امْرَأً مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَكِنَّهُ حَدَثَ فِي نَفْسِي مَسْحٌ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقَالَ «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرُنَا إِذَا كُنَّا سَفَرًا أَوْ مُسَافِرِينَ أَنْ لَا نَنْزِعَ خِفَافَنَا ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهُنَّ إِلَّا مِنْ جَنَابَةٍ وَلَكِنْ مِنْ نَوْمٍ أَوْ غَائِطٍ أَوْ بَوْلٍ»

✧ No man goes out of his house seeking knowledge except the angels lower their wings for him, pleased with what he does. I said to him, 'You were a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but something about wiping over the leather socks has occurred in my mind.' He said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command us, when we were on a journey or traveling, not to remove our leather socks for three days and their nights except on account of major ritual impurity, but [we could wipe] from sleep, defecation, or urine.'
