حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ الدَّقِيقِيُّ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ قَبِيصَةَ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا أَبُو جَنَابٍ حَدَّثَنِي طَلْحَةُ بْنُ مُصَرِّفٍ أَنَّ زِرَّ بْنَ حُبَيْشٍ أَتَى صَفْوَانَ بْنَ عَسَّالٍ فَقَالَ مَا غَدَا بِكَ إِلَيَّ الْغَدَاةَ؟ فَقَالَ غَدَا بِي الْتِمَاسُ الْعِلْمِ قَالَ
أَمَا إِنَّهُ مَا يَصْنَعُ مَا صَنَعْتَ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا وَضَعَتْ لَهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا رِضًا بِالَّذِي يَصْنَعُ قُلْتُ إِنِّي غَدَوْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ قَالَ إِنِّي سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَأَمْسَحُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ ثَلَاثٌ لِلْمُسَافِرِ لَا يَنْزِعْهُمَا مِنْ غَائِطٍ وَلَا بَوْلٍ وَلَا نَوْمٍ وَيَوْمٌ لِلْمُقِيمِ»

✧ Indeed, no one does what you have done except that the angels lower their wings for him, pleased with what he does. I said: 'I came early to ask you about wiping over the leather socks.' He said: 'I asked the Messenger of God ﷺ: Should I wipe over the leather socks, O Messenger of God?' He said: «Yes, three for the traveler—he does not remove them due to defecation, urine, or sleep—and a day for the resident.»
