حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُفَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي شَدَّادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مِنْ وَلَدِ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ ؓ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَجَلَسَ شَدَّادٌ بَيْنَهُمَا

وَقَالَ هَلْ تَدْرِيَانِ مَا يُجْلِسُنِي بَيْنَكُمَا؟ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا جَمِيعًا فَفَرِّقُوا بَيْنَهُمَا فَوَاللهِ مَا اجْتَمَعَا إِلَّا عَلَى غَدْرَةٍ» فَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أُفَرِّقَ بَيْنَكُمَا

✧ And he said: “Do you two know what makes me sit between you? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘When you see the two of them together, separate them, for by Allah, they never come together except for treachery.’ So I wanted to separate you two.”
