حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمَدِينِيِّ فُسْتُقَةُ ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ عَنِ الْهَيْثَمِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ قَالَ «هَلَكَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ صُرَدَ سَنَةَ خَمْسٍ وَسِتِّينَ» قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَبَلَغَنِي
«أَنَّ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ صُرَدَ الْخُزَاعِيَّ خَرَجَ هُوَ وَالْمُسَيِّبُ بْنَ نَجَبَةَ الْفَزَارِيُّ فِي أَرْبَعَةِ آلَافٍ فَعَسْكَرَا بِالنَّخِيلَةِ يَطْلُبُونَ بِدَمِ الْحُسَيْنِ ؓ وَعَلَيْهِمْ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ صُرَدَ وَذَلِكَ لِمُسْتَهَلِّ رَبِيعٍ الْآخِرِ سَنَةَ خَمْسٍ وَسِتِّينَ ثُمَّ سَارُوا إِلَى عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ فَلَقُوا مُقَدِّمَتَهُ فَاقْتَتَلُوا فَقُتِلَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ صُرَدَ وَابْنُ نَجَبَةَ فِي شَهْرِ رَبِيعٍ الْآخِرِ»

✧ Sulayman b. Surad al-Khuza'i and al-Musayyib b. Najabah al-Fazari went out with four thousand, and they camped at al-Nukhaylah seeking the blood of al-Husayn ؓ, and Sulayman b. Surad was over them. That was at the beginning of Rabi' al-Akhir in the year sixty-five. Then they marched toward Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad and met his vanguard, and they fought. Sulayman b. Surad and Ibn Najabah were killed in the month of Rabi' al-Akhir.
