حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا وَكِيعٌ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ صَبْرٍ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهِ مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ لَقِيَ اللهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ» فَدَخَلَ الْأَشْعَثُ فَقَالَ مَا حَدَّثَكُمَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ؟ فَقُلْنَا بِكَذَا وَكَذَا فَقَالَ فِيَّ نَزَلَتْ كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ خُصُومَةٌ فِي أَرْضٍ لَنَا خَاصَمْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِي بَيِّنَةٌ فَقَالَ «أُحَلِّفُهُ؟» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِذًا يَحْلِفُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ وَهُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لَقِيَ اللهَ ﷻ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ» وَنَزَلَتْ {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا} إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Whoever swears a patient oath to seize thereby the property of a Muslim will meet God while He is angry with him.' Then al-Ash'ath entered and said, 'What did Abu 'Abd al-Rahman tell you?' We said, 'Such and such.' He said, 'It was revealed concerning me. There was a dispute between me and a man over some land of ours. I brought the case to the Prophet ﷺ, but I had no proof. He said, "Shall I make him swear?" I said, "O Messenger of God, then he will swear." The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Whoever swears an oath to seize thereby the property of a person while he is lying in it will meet God ﷻ while He is angry with him." And the verse was revealed: {Indeed, those who purchase with the covenant of God and their oaths a small price...} to the end of the verse.
