حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْعَسَّالُ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَجَلِيُّ ثنا أَبُو مَرْيَمَ ثنا إِيَاسُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَقَالَ الْقَوْمُ إِنْ كُنْتَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِأُخْرَى فَقَالَ الْقَوْمُ إِنْ كُنْتَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَى وَاحِدَةٍ خَيْرًا وَعَلَى الْأُخْرَى شَرًّا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي السَّمَاءِ»

✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ when a funeral was brought, and the people said: If you were, and if you were. Then another was brought, and the people said: If you were, and if you were. They praised one with good and the other with evil. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “You are Allah’s witnesses on earth, and the angels are Allah’s witnesses in heaven.”
