حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي رَحِمَهُ اللهُ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ لَاحِقٍ ثنا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ قَالَ
اسْتَأْذَنَتِ الْحُمَّى عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهَا «مَنْ أَنْتِ؟» قَالَتْ أَنَا الْحُمَّى أَبْرِي اللَّحْمَ وأَمُصُّ الدَّمَ قَالَ «اذْهَبِي إِلَى أَهْلِ قُبَاءَ» فَأَتَتْهُمْ فَجَاءُوا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَقَدِ اصْفَرَّتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ فَشَكَوُا الْحُمَّى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا شِئْتُمْ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ دَعَوْتُ اللهَ فَدَفَعَهَا عَنْكُمْ وَإِنْ شِئْتُمْ تَرَكْتُمُوهَا فَأَسْقَطَتْ بَقِيَّةَ ذُنُوبِكُمْ» قَالُوا بَلْ تَدَعُهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ

✧ Fever sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he asked it, "Who are you?" It said, "I am fever; I consume the flesh and suck the blood." He said, "Go to the people of Quba'." So it came upon them, and they came to the Prophet ﷺ with their faces having turned yellow. They complained of fever to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said, "Whatever you wish: if you wish, I will supplicate God and He will remove it from you; and if you wish, you may leave it so that it may erase the remainder of your sins." They said, "Rather leave it, O Messenger of God."
