✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by me, and with him was Abu Bakr ؓ, at Khadawat between al-Juhfah and Harsha, both of them on a single camel, heading to al-Madinah. Ibn al-Rida' mounted them on a stud camel of his, and he sent with them a servant of his called Mas'ud. He said to him: "Take them by the hidden passes of the roads which you know, and do not leave them until they have fulfilled their need from you and from your camel." So he took them through Thaniyyat al-Zamha', then he took them through Thaniyyat al-Kubah, then he brought them to Ahya', then he took them through Thaniyyat al-Murrah, then he brought them from the mountain pass of Dhat Kasht, then he took them through al-Mudlajah, then he took them through al-'Ishalah, then he took them through Thaniyyat al-Murrah, then he brought them into al-Madinah, and they had fulfilled their need from him and from his camel. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Mas'ud back to his master Aws b. 'Abd Allah. He was negligent, not branding the camels. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him to tell Aws to brand them on their necks with the mark of a horse's fetter." Sakhr b. Malik said: "And it is, by Allah, our brand today. The fetter of a horse, as I see it, is two rings and a line drawn between them."
