✧ O Messenger of God, I wove this with my own hands to clothe you. The Messenger of God ﷺ took it, though he needed it, and came out to us wearing it as his waist-wrapper. A man from the group felt it and said: “O Messenger of God, give it to me to wear?” He said: “Yes.” The man sat for as long as God willed in the gathering, then he returned, folded it, and sent it back to him. The people said to him: “You did not do well. You asked it of him when you knew that he does not refuse anyone who asks.” The man said: “By God, I asked for it only so that it might be my shroud on the day I die.” Sahl said: “And it was his shroud.” Qutaybah said: “He was Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ.”
