حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُعَلَّى الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ السَّقَطِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَا ثنا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ مَنْظُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ

مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ فَإِذَا شَاةٌ شَائِلَةٌ بِرِجْلِهَا مَيِّتَةٌ فَقَالَ «تَرَوْنَ هَذِهِ الشَّاةَ هَيِّنَةٌ عَلَى أَهْلِهَا؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَلدُّنْيَا أَهْوَنُ عَلَى اللهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّاةِ عَلَى أَهْلِهَا وَلَوْ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا تَزِنُ عِنْدَ اللهِ جَنَاحَ بَعُوضَةٍ مَا سَقَى كَافِرًا مِنْهَا شَرْبَةَ مَاءٍ»

✧ The Prophet ﷺ passed by Dhū al-Ḥulayfah and there was a dead sheep with its leg raised. He said: “Do you consider this sheep insignificant to its owners?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “By the One in whose hand is my soul, the world is more insignificant to Allah than this sheep is to its owners. If the world weighed as much as a mosquito’s wing in the sight of Allah, He would not give a disbeliever a drink of water from it.”
