حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَنْبَرٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ أَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَامَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِهِ فَصَلَّى لِلنَّاسِ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَكَبَّرَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ الْقَهْقَرَى فَسَجَدَ فِي أَسْفَلِ الْمِنْبَرِ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَفَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهَ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا فَعَلْتُ هَذَا لِتَأْتَمُّوا بِي وَلِتَعْلَمُوا صَلَاتِي»

✧ I heard Sahl b. Sa'd say: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stand on his pulpit and pray for the people while he was on the pulpit. He said the takbir on it, then bowed, then moved backwards and prostrated at the bottom of the pulpit, then went back and did the same until he completed his prayer. Then he turned to the people and said: "O people, I only did this so that you may follow me and learn my prayer."
