✧ That 'Amir b. al-Tufayl came to the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah, and he argued with the Prophet ﷺ and raised his voice, while Thabit b. Qays was standing with his sword over the Prophet ﷺ. Thabit said, "O 'Amir, lower your voice before the Prophet ﷺ." 'Amir said, "What does that matter to you?" Thabit said, "By the One who honored him, were it not that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked it, I would strike your head with this sword." 'Amir looked at him while he was sitting and Thabit was standing, and said, "By Allah, O Thabit, if you were exposed to me in battle, you would turn away from me." Thabit said, "By Allah, O 'Amir, if you were exposed to my tongue, you would hate my life." Then a nephew of 'Amir sneezed and praised Allah, so the Prophet ﷺ responded to him, saying, 'May Allah have mercy on you.' Then 'Amir sneezed and did not praise Allah, so the Prophet ﷺ did not respond to him. 'Amir said, "You responded to this boy and left me out?" He said, "This one praised Allah." 'Amir said, "Then I swear that I will fill it against you with cavalry and infantry." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah will suffice me against you, along with the two sons of Qaylah." Then 'Amir left and gathered forces against the Prophet ﷺ, and three clans of Banu Sulaym joined him, the ones against whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Usayyah, Dhakwan, and Ri'l. The Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate against them in the dawn prayer: "O Allah, curse Lihyan, Ri'l, Dhakwan, and 'Usayyah who disobeyed Allah and His Messenger. Allah is Greatest." He supplicated for seventeen nights. When he heard that 'Amir had gathered forces against him, the Prophet ﷺ sent against them 'Amr b. Umayyah al-Damri and others from the Ansar, with their commander al-Mundhir b. 'Amr. They went until they halted at the well of Ma'unah. Then 'Amir came and attacked them, and he killed them all. None of them escaped except 'Amr b. Umayyah, who was with the pack animals. Allah revealed to His Prophet ﷺ on the day they were killed the news of his companions, and he said, "Your companions have been killed, so consider your situation." Then the Prophet ﷺ supplicated against 'Amir, saying, "O Allah, suffice me against 'Amir." And Allah sufficed him against him. 'Amir went until he stopped at his courtyard, and Allah struck him with a gland in his throat in the house of a woman of Sulul. He began jumping and saying, "Woe to 'Amir from a gland like the gland of a camel in the house of a Sululite woman; he desires to die in her house." He remained like that until he died in her house. And Arbad b. Qays was struck by a thunderbolt and burned, and died. And those who were with them returned.
