حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَصْرِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ الْبَزَّازُ ثنا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا اطَّلَعَ مِنْ جُحْرٍ فِي بَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِدْرًى يَحُكُّ بِهِ رَأْسَهُ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تُبْصِرُنِي لَطَعَنْتُ بِهِ فِي عَيْنِكَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الِاسْتِئْذَانُ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْبَصَرِ»

✧ He informed him that a man looked through a hole in the door of the Prophet ﷺ while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had an iron comb with which he was scratching his head. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him, he said, "If I knew that you could see me, I would have stabbed you in the eye with it. Asking permission is only required because of seeing."
